As a photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of bridal suites for wedding day preparations. The bridal suite is not only the space where the bride will spend some of the most intimate moments with her closest friends and family, but it’s also the backdrop for many of the getting-ready photos that will be treasured for years to come. Here are three tips to help brides when selecting the perfect bridal suite to get ready in on their wedding day, from a photographer’s perspective of course!

Natural Light is Key

When choosing a bridal suite, natural light should be at the top of the list. Natural light is the most flattering and will make your skin look beautiful in your getting-ready photos. When touring potential venues, make sure to ask about the lighting in the bridal suite. Look for windows that let in ample light and try to choose a suite that has windows on at least two walls. The more natural light, the better!

Consider the Space and Decor

When selecting a bridal suite, consider the size of the space and the decor. The space should be big enough to accommodate the bride, her bridesmaids, any other family members who will be present AND her Vendors that are participating in the getting ready process.  This includes the hair & makeup artists and their assistants as well as your photographer, videographer, and their assistants. Make sure there is enough room for everyone to move around freely and that there is enough seating for everyone to be comfortable. Additionally, take note of the decor in the space. You want the decor to complement the overall style of your wedding and make for beautiful photo backdrops.

Think about Logistics

Logistics are an important consideration when choosing a bridal suite. You want to make sure the suite is easily accessible from the ceremony and reception venues, as well as any transportation that will be used on the wedding day. You also want to ensure that there are adequate outlets and mirrors for everyone to get ready. Additionally, make sure there is a private space for the bride to change into her dress and touch up her hair and makeup before the ceremony.

Choosing the right bridal suite can make all the difference in creating beautiful getting-ready photos and experience on your wedding day. Keep these tips in mind when selecting a bridal suite, and you’ll be well on your way to having stunning photos you’ll always cherish.
